Up for auction today is a Patricola Professional S3 Oboe, which is being sold with no reserve! Fratelli Patricola is an Italian company and manufacturer of oboes since 1976 with headquarters in Castelnuovo Scrivia, in the province of Alessandria. History: At the beginning of the 1930s, in the village of Castelnuovo Scrivia there was a factory for the production of brass and woodwind instruments , that employed several master luthiers. The production of instruments stopped during the Second World War and did not resume until the early sixties, when the three brothers Francesco, Pietro and Biagino Patricola learned the secrets of the construction of oboes from an old artisan. In 1976, in Castelnuovo Scrivia, the three brothers founded the company that was later joined by their children and grandchildren to carry on the family business. The oboes built by Patricola are known all over the world and played by Italian oboists in the orchestras of Milan, Rome, Venice and Naples as well as by international oboists in the Berliner Philharmoniker as well as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The peculiarity of the oboes created by Patricola lies in the natural seasoning of wood: it takes 20 years for it to be transformed into the finished instrument and are manufactured by hand, in grenadilla wood.
This oboe is o exception and is made of grenadilla wood, which is in great condition. The pads are in good condition but may need to be replaced in the near term along with other adjustments by a technician to ensure that the instrument is in prime playing condition!
