Description
A fine old French Cello with a beautiful refined sound, fine projection, and a rare one piece back. A wonderful opportunity for a fine soloist or a professional chamber musician, as well as a collector.2021 updated and original Insurance letters (*see photos above) from three world famous and respected appraisers in New York City and New Jersey (Dario D'attili), state it to be 'French Violoncello, Laberte Workshop, c. 1910, bearing the interior brand “MILLOT”, and 'a fine example of the higher level of production of the Laberte workshop, in good condition'. To avoid a conflict of interest, I've redacted the names of the authorities since the cello isn't being sold through those shops at present, but all inquiries are welcome, and the winning buyer would receive all information and copies of these documents in full. Please contact me for any details, and if interested in trying this Cello in a Hall in NYC. Pick up is local in New York City only.
The string length is 675 millimeters (26.57 inches), and the back length is 748 millimeters. A Cello by Millot currently retails in well known shops and on line from -50,000 USD. The right offer for this cello accounts generously for any adjustments, strings, and setup for the winner and individual players preferences.
The Cello was used professionally since the mid seventies, and was purchased at that time with original papers from Master Luthier and Appraiser Dario D'attili, from a Julliard teacher and Soloist, and Principal Cellist of the New Jersey Symphony.
Major restoration work was done in 1998 by a well known restorer to reinforce and close any openings, and there is a note at that time as well referring to the inner brand by Millot inside the Cello during that restoration. As many know, Mr D'attili also kept detailed notes and measurements of every instrument he appraised and this is noted on the papers included.
Please feel free to contact me about any further details, to arrange to try this cello, and all serious inquiries are welcome. This would be a great Cello and investment for a soloist who wants a quality tried and true antique instrument at near the price of a fine, but untried new performers instrument.
Here is a link to 3 Youtube video demos using this cello at, https://www.youtube.com/user/Vincellent. The phone was only a few feet away in a rather 'live' room, so there's quite a bit of surface noise that isn't filtered out by the distances in a normal concert hall between the instrument and an audience. At some point soon I'll redo these samples in a better location or a small hall.
This is a great opportunity, so please be sure to carefully read all the detailed information and high resolution images given here in advance of any inquiries.
Happy Cello Hunting, and thanks for looking!
