Rigoutat Classic Model/Conservatory Oboe-Just Serviced-Excellent Condition!
One of the world's most sought after oboes has just come into our shop as a trade-in! This Rigoutat Classic Symphony model oboe made in Paris was probably made c.1955 and was well maintained. Serial number 030X. Made of grenadilla wood with silver plated nickel keys. All silver plating intact. All pads are in good condition, none are broken or worn. Just a bit discoloration on some of the cork pads. Skin pads look practically new. We noticed that there was an upper joint crack which was pinned and sealed. It's barely noticeable from the outside or inside but there is evidence of three little spots of filler where the pins went in. The previous owner believed this to be a Symphony Model but it most closely resembles a Classic Model from the 1950's.
An expert offered us this information:
Just thought you'd like to know this Rigoutat is likely from the late 1950's. All Rigoutat's had 3rd 8ve keys by the early 1980's and I can't even guess how far back they had left hand F keys.
Also this instrument would have been what we now call a "Classic" model, although at the time it was made, it probably wasn't called that.
